The group was born on the 6th May 1996. The name of the group, Dza Nyonmo, is a name of one of the most popular traditional Adinkra symbols, used to represent the supremacy of God.
The idea to form the Dza Nyonmo Dance Ensemble was hatched by four strong, talented youngsters, having one common goal in mind: to preserve African dance as a way of African life. Facing the cultural breakdown, caused by current socio-economic and political situation, they recognized the importance of arts and traditions in creating and maintaining the solid social structure. So they decided to contribute to the community by the means they knew best: African dance, drama, singing and drumming.
The group's commitment to create a better society has evolved into using music and dance to portray a complete idea to follow and to spread the universal message of love and acceptance. In our attempts to follow our ideals, we have been involved in educating our youths, about teenage pregnancy, the deadly disease HIV/AIDS and environmental hazards.
We have performed at some of the major cultural events in Ghana, such as KiddaFest Children Art Festival, Yosakoi Ghana-Japan Unity Dance Festival and many more. Our group have been chosen on many occasions to perform during the visits of royalties and foreign presidents to Ghana, such as Queen Elizabeth, the President of Brunei and the Jamaican Prime Minister.
The group recorded their debut album entitled “BINYO” in the year 2011.
